To provide professional and administrative service and advice
to the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives,
Members of the both Houses of Parliament and Parliamentary Committees.
The core operations of the Office of the Parliament are conducted
from the Secretariat. The Secretariat provides day-to-day advice on
parliamentary practice and procedure to Members of Parliament and
Parliamentary Committees, administrative support for the Senate and
the House of Representatives in the performance of their duties, Secretariat
and other support services to parliamentary Committees and the Local
Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and protocol
service to Members and foreign parliamentary officials.
The Secretariat also undertakes orientation seminars for Members
of Parliament whenever a new Parliament convenes after an election.
These seminars are conducted in-house by officers of the Office of
the Parliament or in conjunction with the Commonwealth Parliamentary
Association.
