Dr. Linda Baboolal has the distinction
of being the first woman to hold this office in the history of Trinidad
and Tobago. A medical doctor specialising in general family practice,
she attended Manitoba University, graduated from the Royal College
of Surgeons and Physicians in Dublin, Ireland in 1973, and worked
extensively in both the public sector and in private practice here
in Trinidad and Tobago.
During the period 1992 to 1995, Dr. Baboolal held the portfolios
of Minister of Social Development and Minster of Health. In addition,
she continues to do a great deal of voluntary work to further the
cause of better health in Trinidad and Tobago, and has a special
interest in the promotion of women in all aspects of life, especially
in decision making.
Dr. Baboolal is married to Dr. Michael Baboolal, is a mother of
five, grandmother of 8, and lists her hobbies as reading, cooking
and travelling. She was elected President of the Senate on 05 April
2002 and again on 17 October 2002. |
