Mr. Ganace Ramdial

Senator the Honourable Ganace Ramdial Senator the Honourable Ganace Ramdial was elected as President of the Senate on November 27, 1995 and re-elected on January 12, 2001. Senator Ramdial was born in 1935, is married and is the father of two children. He is an Attorney-at-Law having been Called to the Bar of the United Kingdom as a member of the Inner Temple in 1963. He is also a fellow of Chartered Institute of Bankers of the UK. Mr. Ramdial served as Chairman of several Boards in both the public and private sectors. He was the President of the Institute of Banking of Trinidad and Tobago and Chairman and CEO of the Trinidad Cooperative Bank Limited and Trinidad Cooperative Bank Trust Company Limited.

Mr. Ramdial passed away on July 01, 2006 at the age of  71.

Dr. Linda Baboolal

Senator the Honourable Dr. Linda Baboolal Dr. Linda Baboolal  has the distinction of being the first woman to hold this office in the history of Trinidad and Tobago. A medical doctor specialising in general family practice, she attended Manitoba University, graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians in Dublin, Ireland in 1973, and worked extensively in both the public sector and in private practice here in Trinidad and Tobago.

During the period 1992 to 1995, Dr. Baboolal held the portfolios of Minister of Social Development and Minster of Health. In addition, she continues to do a great deal of voluntary work to further the cause of better health in Trinidad and Tobago, and has a special interest in the promotion of women in all aspects of life, especially in decision making.

Dr. Baboolal is married to Dr. Michael Baboolal, is a mother of five, grandmother of 8, and lists her hobbies as reading, cooking and travelling. She was elected President of the Senate on 05 April 2002 and again on 17 October 2002.
